The Foreign Language  Teaching Assistant (FLTA) Program will continue for  the 2006-2007 academic year.  The program offers to place young (ages 21-30) teachers and teaching  assistants at U.S. colleges and universities for one  year to teach their native language.

We are looking forward to the opportunity to work with institutions of higher education in New Hampshire for the upcoming academic year 2006-07.  There is also a possibility to place a handful of French FLTAs in local public high schools.  I would appreciate any advice you might have about possible contacts at schools in New Hampshire that might find FLTAs useful  Please note that this year we also hope to expand the program to two-year colleges that would benefit from the Fulbright-funded foreign language teachers and resources offered by the FLTA program.

Summer Seminar in Mexico for Spanish teachers conducted by the Oregon International Council annually since 1995, for a total of approximately 500 participants.  Several educators from other states in recent years have suggested we expand participation from around the country, as we now hope to do.

The 4-week program at the English/Español Training Center (ETC) in Puebla, Mexico, includes 80 hours of intensive instruction in Spanish language, emphasizing communicative skills, together with 30 hours of language teaching methods with Anne Mueller, an experienced Oregon teacher known for effective leadership in this field.     Graduate credit is available from Oregon State University.   Accommodations with Mexican families, plus numerous field trips in and near the city, as well as a three-day tour of Mexico City, also provide significant cultural insights.

OIC will gladly provide additional information on request, through the above e-mail address, or by phone at 503 584-7100, fax 503 584-7102, or PO Box 111, Salem OR 97308-0111.
